Preventive Dental Wellness
by Life Stage

At PetDentistry.com we prefer providing "Preventive Dental Wellness" BEFORE dental disease develops.  Our trademarked approach to Preventive Dental Wellness  optimize's each patient's dental health by focusing on each pet's specific needs at each Life-Stage:  Pediatric, Adulthood, and Geriatric.

Pediatric Pet Dentistry

The dental wellness decisions you make for your puppy and kitten have a major impact on their quality and length of life.

At PetDentistry.com we build the foundation for life long dental health during a puppy's and kitten's first 9 months of life.    Optimized Home Dental Care - customized to your pet's life-style and breed - is established by training puppies and kittens (when they are most trainable) to permit good habits and proper frequency of home dental care.  Dental exams strategically scheduled at 3, 6, and 9 months of age provide optimum detection of pediatric dental diseases BEFORE it can cause trouble. The spaced exams allows us to optimize your home care technique, reinforce good habits and proper frequency, and modify the Home Care Plan as indicated. Last but not least, we also make sure you are avoiding those behaviors and treats that damage new adult teeth.

Adulthood Pet Dentistry

The dental wellness decisions you make during your pet's adulthood have a major impact on their quality and length of life. The timeframe of adulthood - the prime years of a pet's life - varies by species and breed.

For the vast majority of breeds 1 year is a practical time period between dental exams. During adulthood the annual dental exam typically provides detection of dental disease BEFORE it can cause trouble (of course, if you notice a dental concern in-between annual exams, certainly contact us ASAP!)  The annual exam also allows us to optimize your home care technique, reinforce good habits and proper frequency, and modify the Home Care Plan as indicated.

Just like people, a periodic dental cleaning prophylaxis, to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth - BEFORE it causes gingivitis or periodontal bone infection around the tooth roots - is the best preventive treatment to keep teeth and gums healthy.

As pets progress through their senior years their dental health becomes critical to their overall health. In the geriatric years dental exams are performed more frequently - ideally every 6 months, to monitor for the earliest detection of oral cancer, tooth resorptions, and for infection in the bone around the tooth roots.

Maintaining excellent dental health during the geriatric years will reduce the risk of senior pets developing mouth pain, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and urinary tract infections. Periodic geriatric lab screenings can be combined with the 6 month geriatric dental exam to optimize early detection of non-dental geriatric illnesses.

At PetDentistry.com we are very experienced managing geriatric dental and medical health concerns to optimize your pet's quality and length of life.
